Every woman, no matter her age, must face her reflection. Staring at it while it stares back. Turning around, what’s the mirror going to say today? Today my reflection is saying, “Well hey girl! Look at what you did! You are so awesome and beautiful! Stare a little longer and believe it. You did this! You took care of you!”

I’m Jessica, partner in crime to my husband Richard and mother to our sweet 2 year old Ethan. I love my little family, but like anyone, we have had our hardships and heartaches. I want to share a couple trials I experienced this year and how the 12 week challenge has helped me overcome my excuses.

Early in the year, someone made a fake dating profile with my photos. The profile said that I was looking to cheat. I found the fake being passed around Facebook. Hundreds of comments were made about my photos. “Going to need a heavy fishing line to reel in this orca”, along with many horrible explicit names were directed at my images. Photos I felt pretty in. Photos that I loved of myself! I started believing what they were saying about me! If they thought I was so freaking fat and ugly, then I was just going to make myself that way! So, ate whatever was in the house. I didn’t care about my body or my health anymore.

A couple of months went by and we decided to grow our family. I ate good. Exercised. Was taking my vitamins. Doing everything I could to host another special baby while they grow. And it worked! I was back on track. We were blessed for a few short weeks. But something happened, and we lost it on Mother’s Day. Once again, I didn’t care anymore. I turned to food for comfort. Started gaining weight, sleeping poorly, feeling blah every day, and feeling guilty because I already had a perfect child that I should be grateful for that still needed my attention. I would wake up and count down the hours till I could go to bed again. I hated the woman staring back at me in the mirror.

I had to decide for myself that I NEEDED to get back on track. I needed it, and so did my family. Yay for the NEM 12 week challenge! I thought that by being in competition with other women like myself would motivate me more. It has! During these past 12 weeks I’ve loved the online support from friends, some I haven’t even met yet! I love the recipe sharing. I finally feel better about myself again! I’ve learned that no matter what unexpected crappy things life can throw at me, I can always get back on track. My biggest transformation is internal. Quitters never win, and winners never quit. So, myself, along with all these ladies that have taken this challenge and completed it, WE ARE WINNERS! We are awesome No Excuse Moms!
