This 12 week challenge came at the perfect time for me. I desperately needed guidance, direction and an outlet in my life. I’d first like to thank Maria and the No Excuse Mom community for saving me at just the right moment.
To make an incredibly long story short, after a healthy pregnancy I suddenly gave birth via emergency c section to twins on April 27, 2018- six weeks before my due date. My beautiful, precious baby boy did not survive. My husband and I found ourselves caring for our newborn daughter, grieving the loss of our son, and trying to maintain normalcy for our 3 year old. In short, life got incredibly hard in an instant.
Who was the first person I began to neglect? Me. When cleared for exercise, I found myself not even wanting to try. Food became a comfort, not fuel. I chose not to attend child loss support groups or therapy, and instead found myself walking around in a permanent fog.
Then, I saw a post about the challenge. Something inside me said it was time to start being ME again. I needed to change not just for my sake, but for my daughters, my husband and the memory of my son.
Exercise and nutrition are wonderful things for not just the body, but the mind and the soul. In these 12 weeks I didn’t lose all my baby weight as I’d hoped, but I lost my brain fog and my feelings of worthlessness. I realized that I’m strong, both physically and mentally. While exercise can’t cure my grief, it helped me find renewed purpose. I think that makes my 12 week journey a true success!
